I just outlined my memories of Growing Up Rich for my husband while we were taking a walk. Upon returning home, I checked my grasp of the facts and they were pretty damn good (i was a little hazy on Sally being 1/2 Jewish). I read the novel over 20 years ago, yet deserve only scant credit. The credit balance goes to Anne Bernays for writing a wonderful novel which naturally compels the reader to remember well. More wonderful - AB's straight arrow characterization of Updike the Shit. Julia included on the shit list - I am horrified too. Deeply generous details on marriage to an introvert - I can relate. What deft and wise handling, or not, of Bern. I am happy to learn the Anne Bernays is still with us. I ordered her and her husband's Back Then from my library. I hope her daughters & grandchildren are taking good care of her. I am sure she is taking very good care of them. What. A. Woman. I also thank you for this excellent interview.
